PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF → JPEG XL, or JXL → JPG, PNG, WebP — converted on your device

How to use JPEG XL converter

Convert images to JPEG XL (.jxl), or convert JXL files back to JPG, PNG, or WebP. Drop in one image or a whole folder: every file is converted on your device with the official libjxl encoder, and you can download the results one at a time or together as a ZIP.

How to convert to JPEG XL

  1. Drop, paste, or choose your images — PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, BMP, AVIF, or JXL
  2. Pick the output format and set the quality (or tick Lossless)
  3. Click Convert & download all to get a ZIP, or download each file from the list

Settings

  • Quality — 90 looks identical to the original for most photos; lower it for smaller files
  • Lossless — keeps every pixel exactly, ideal for screenshots, graphics, and archiving PNGs
  • Effort — from 1 (fastest) to 9 (smallest file, slowest)
  • Progressive decoding — the image appears quickly at low detail and sharpens as it loads
  • Transparency is kept in JXL, PNG, and WebP; for JPG you choose a background color

Why JPEG XL?

JPEG XL typically makes photos 30–60% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality, and lossless JXL is usually 20–40% smaller than PNG. It supports transparency, wide color, HDR, and progressive loading. Safari 17+, Apple Photos, Adobe apps, GIMP, Krita, and many viewers open JXL; for sites or apps that don't, convert it back to JPG or PNG here.

Each file's new size and saving are shown in the list. Your images are never uploaded, and there are no limits on the number of conversions.
