How to use Keyboard tester

Click Start test and press keys on your keyboard. Held keys turn blue; released keys stay green so you can see which keys you have tested. Left and right modifiers, function keys, arrows, and the number pad are shown separately.

The event details show the physical key code, typed character, key location, repeat state, and lock states. Press Escape to end the test and return to normal keyboard navigation. Switching tabs or windows clears held keys. Reset clears the results.

Some shortcuts and hardware keys are intercepted by your operating system or browser, and may not produce an event here. The display uses a US physical layout; the character readout reflects your actual layout. Keys absent from the display are listed separately.

Key presses and typed characters stay in this tab and are never sent to analytics. The page and control actions use the site’s Plausible analytics when online. The tester works offline once its page and local assets have been saved.
